In 1992, Palisades was founded to be the nice New Jersey car insurance company. Drivers and agents get more reasons to smile with more value, friendly New Jersey expertise, and service done right.
Customers have consistently chosen Palisades, making us the largest independent agent auto insurance company in New Jersey. We continue to deliver more value, more service, and more insurance innovations.
Palisades is a Plymouth Rock managed company. Plymouth Rock companies are locally focused providers of insurance, operating within the northeastern USA. Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation, founded in 1983, provides auto insurance to Massachusetts and Connecticut drivers. Mt Washington Assurance Corporation provides auto, home, and umbrella insurance in New Hampshire. Bunker Hill provides homeowner’s and renter’s insurance in Massachusetts and Connecticut. All companies share the vision of exceptional customer service, a lasting commitment to independent insurance agents, and a unique workplace for creative, empowered employees.

In 2008 Palisades became one of the largest independent agent auto insurance providers for New Jersey drivers. Palisades has one of the lowest average valid complaint ratios of any auto insurance company ranked by the NJ Department of Banking and Insurance (2003- 2008). In support of our customers and agents, Palisades launched the Savings Pass, that gives 5-20% discounts on many auto-related services and purchases.
Along the way, Palisades consolidated with several insurance providers. As a result, Palisades is providing more service to more quality insurance agents and more competitive auto insurance for more NJ drivers. Palisades now offers umbrella insurance to protect your assets beyond normal home and auto insurance coverage.
In 2003, Palisades acquired the The Prudential Property and Casualty Insurance Company of New Jersey from Prudential Financial, and renamed it High Point in order to serve customers better. In 2008, Palisades acquired the Proformance Insurance Company. Palisades became the replacement carrier for the auto insurance businesses of Rutgers Casualty Insurance Company, Parkway Insurance Company, Great American Spirit Insurance, Twin City Fire Insurance, Harleysville Garden State Insurance Company, American Reliance, and New Jersey Liberty Insurance Corporation (part of Liberty Mutual).
Palisades has a history of innovation and customer service focus. At our inception in 1992, Palisades introduced many discounts for drivers, including discounts for low annual mileage rating, safe drivers and the Safety Pledge. Since 2007, as part of our continued innovative approach to claims, we email customers appraisals with photographs of the damaged vehicle. Our Door to Door Valet Claims Service was pioneered in 2002 – the first of its kind in auto insurance. We introduced Accident Forgiveness free of charge to qualified customers. Palisades provides creative and competitive products and innovative tools for agents so they can look after their customers better.
